This constituency covers an approximate area of 1030.61 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°43'44.0"N 85°47'03.8"E.
A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Gomia constituency, which are: Ramgarh, Mandu, Dumri, Bermo. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia district of West Bengal.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Lambodar Mahto of AJSUP won in this constituency beating Babita Devi of JMM by a margin of 10,937 votes which was 05.77% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Yogendra Prasad of JMM was the winner in this seat beating Madhav Lal Singh of BJP by a margin of 37,514 votes which was 21.19% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Madhav Lal Singh of INC won this seat defeating Yogendra Prasad of AJSU by a margin of 8,303 votes which was 6.16% of the total votes polled for the seat.
