This constituency covers an approximate area of 452.7 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 25°05'27.2"N 87°46'05.9"E.

A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Rajmahal constituency, which are: Borio, Barhait, Pakur. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Malda district of West Bengal, Katihar and Bhgalpur districts of Bihar.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Anant Kumar Ojha of BJP won in this constituency beating Md Tajuddin of AJSUP by a margin of 12,372 votes which was 05.88% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Anant Kumar Ojha of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Md Tajuddin of JMM by a margin of 702 votes which was 0.36% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Arun Mandal of BJP won this seat defeating Md Tajuddin of JMM by a margin of 10,403 votes which was 7.64% of the total votes polled for the seat.
