Alathur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Palakkad district in the Cochin region of Kerala: Alathur, Erimayur, Kizhakkenchery, Kuzhalmannam, Melarcode, Thenkurissi and Vandazhi Panchayats in Alathur Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 312 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Alathur is: 10°35'23.3"N 76°32'38.8"E.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, K D Prasenan of CPIM won in this constituency beating Palayam Pradeep of INC by a margin of 34118 votes which was 25.35% of the total votes cast. In 2016, K.D.Prasenan of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating Adv.K Kusalakumar of KCM by a margin of 36060 votes which was 28.03% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, M.Chandran of CPIM won this seat defeating Adv. K. Kusala Kumar of KCM by a margin of 24741 votes which was 21.32% of the total votes polled for the seat.
