Chengannur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Alappuzha district in the Travancore region of Kerala: Chengannur Municipality and Ala, Budhanoor, Cheriyanad, Mannar, Mulakuzha, Pandanad, Puliyoor, Thiruvanvandoor, Venmony Panchayats in Chengannur Taluk and Chennithala– Thriperumthura Panchayats in Mavelikkara Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 170 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Chengannur is: 9°17'38.8"N 76°35'07.8"E.

Voter turnout

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 69.11%, while it was 73.74% in 2016, and 70.88% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Saji Cherian of CPIM won in this constituency beating Murali of INC by a margin of 32093 votes which was 21.88% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Adv.K.K.Ramachandran Nair of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating P.C.Vishnunath of INC by a margin of 7983 votes which was 5.49% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, P.C.Vishnunath of INC won this seat defeating Adv.C.S.Sujatha of CPIM by a margin of 12500 votes which was 9.97% of the total votes polled for the seat.
