Kayamkulam Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Alappuzha district in the Travancore region of Kerala: Kayamkulam Municipality and Devikulangara, Kandalloor, Krishnapuram, Pathiyoor Panchayat in Karthikappally Taluk and Bharanikkavu and Chettikulangara Panchayats in Mavelikkara Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 125 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kayamkulam is: 9°10'57.7"N 76°30'40.3"E.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Adv U Prathibha of CPIM won in this constituency beating Aritha Babu of INC by a margin of 6298 votes which was 3.92% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Adv.U.Prathibha Hari of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating Adv.M.Liju of INC by a margin of 11857 votes which was 7.56% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, C.K.Sadasivan of CPIM won this seat defeating M.Murali of INC by a margin of 1315 votes which was 0.94% of the total votes polled for the seat.
