Kunnathunad Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Ernakulam district in the Cochin region of Kerala: Aikaranad, Kizhakkambalam, Kunnathunad, Mazhuvannoor, Poothrikka, Thiruvaniyoor, Vadavucode-Puthencruz and Vazhakulam Panchayats in Kunnathunad Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 242 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kunnathunad is: 10°00'33.5"N 76°26'33.7"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 80.99%, while it was 85.94% in 2016, and 83.63% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Adv P V Sreenijin of CPIM won in this constituency beating V P Sajeendran of INC by a margin of 2715 votes which was 1.76% of the total votes cast. In 2016, V P Sajeendran of INC was the winner in this seat beating Adv. Shiji Sivaji of CPIM by a margin of 2679 votes which was 1.81% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, V.P. Sajeendran of INC won this seat defeating M. A. Surendran of CPIM by a margin of 8732 votes which was 6.82% of the total votes polled for the seat.
