Tarur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Palakkad district in the Cochin region of Kerala: Kannambra, Kavasseri, Kottayi, Kuthanur, Peringottukurissi, Puducode, Tarur and Vadakkenchery Panchayats in Alathur Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 241 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Tarur is: 10°40'20.3"N 76°29'29.8"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 75.9%, while it was 78.85% in 2016, and 75.17% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, P P Sumod of CPIM won in this constituency beating K A Sheeba of INC by a margin of 24531 votes which was 18.81% of the total votes cast. In 2016, A.K.Balan of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating C.Prakash of INC by a margin of 23068 votes which was 17.98% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, A. K. Balan of CPIM won this seat defeating N. Vinesh of KECJ by a margin of 25756 votes which was 22.94% of the total votes polled for the seat.
