Thavanur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Malappuram district in the Malabar region of Kerala: Edappal, Thavanur and Vattamkulam Panchayats in Ponnani Taluk and Purathur, Mangalam and Thriprangode Panchayats in Tirur Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 139 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Thavanur is: 10°49'00.1"N 75°58'28.6"E.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Dr K T Jaleel of IND won in this constituency beating Firos Kunnamparambil of INC by a margin of 2564 votes which was 1.7% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Dr. K.T. Jaleel of IND was the winner in this seat beating Ifthiquarudheen. Master of INC by a margin of 17064 votes which was 12.01% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Dr.K.T. Jaleel of IND won this seat defeating Adv. V.V. Prakash of INC by a margin of 6854 votes which was 5.6% of the total votes polled for the seat.
