In the 2008 elections, Lakhan Singh Yadav of INC won this seat beating Brijendra Tiwari of BJP by a margin of 10,488 votes which was 9.59% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 31.91% in the seat.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 2,144 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Bhitarwar is: 25°59'00.6"N 77°56'36.6"E.
