In 2013, Umang Singhar of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Sardarsingh Meda of BJP by a margin of 12,326 votes which was 9.22% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 49.96% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Umang Singhar of INC won this seat beating Chhatarsingh Darbar of BJP by a margin of 21,059 votes which was 23.97% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 54.84% in the seat.

Gandhwani comprises of the following areas of Dhar district in the Malwa Tribal region of Madhya Pradesh: Gandhwani Tehsil, Bagh RI Circle of Kukshi Tehsil and 37 Ganganagar, 38 Mandli, 39 Amla, 40 Kachhawada, 41 Nimkheda, 42 Bori, 43 Khandan Bujurg, 44 Dilawara, 45 Salkanpur, 74 Ambapura and 75 Khedi Patwari Circles of Tirla RI Circle of Dhar Tehsil.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1,527 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Gandhwani is: 22°26'34.4"N 74°59'33.7"E.
