In 2013, Aashish Govind Sharma of BJP emerged victorious in this seat beating Shyam Holani of INC by a margin of 21,717 votes which was 14.68% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 54.06% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Brijmohan Dhoot (Kakaji) of BJP won this seat beating Agnihotree Rajkumari Kailash Kundal of INC by a margin of 3,657 votes which was 3.5% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 46.41% in the seat.

Assembly constituency no.173. Khategaon comprises of the following areas of Dewas district in the Malwa North region of Madhya Pradesh: Khategaon Tehsil, Kannod 1 RI Circle of Kannod Tehsil, and Kannod (Nagar Panchayat) NPT.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1,642 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Khategaon is: 22°40'08.0"N 76°51'16.6"E.
