In 2013, R Vanlalvena of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating R K Lianzuala of MNF by a margin of 1,296 votes which was 7.94% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 39.59% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, K Liantlinga of ZNP won this seat beating R Vanlalvena of INC by a margin of 28 votes which was 0.2% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 31.82% in the seat.

Aizawl South - I comprises of the following areas of Aizawl district in the Aizwal region of Mizoram: Aizawl (Notified Town) - Wd No 30 - Bethlehem Vengthlang, Wd No 31 – Bethlehem, Wd No 32 - College Veng, Wd No 33 – Venghlui, Wd No 34 – Republic and Wd No 35 - upper Republic in Tlangnuam R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 11 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Aizawl South - I is: 23°41'18.6"N 92°42'48.6"E.
