In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, T J Lalnuntluanga of MNF won in this seat defeating Lal Thanhawla of INC by a margin of 1,049 which was 7.34% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 36.45% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Jh Rothuama of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Rosiamngheta of MPC by a margin of 1,650 votes which was 13% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 40.99% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Jh Rothuama of INC won this seat beating Zoramthanga of MNF by a margin of 1,058 votes which was 8.9% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 44.96% in the seat.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 180 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Champhai South is: 23°24'20.9"N 93°20'00.6"E.
