In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, T J Lalnuntluanga of MNF won in this seat defeating Lal Thanhawla of INC by a margin of 1,049 which was 7.34% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 36.45% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Jh Rothuama of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Rosiamngheta of MPC by a margin of 1,650 votes which was 13% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 40.99% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Jh Rothuama of INC won this seat beating Zoramthanga of MNF by a margin of 1,058 votes which was 8.9% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 44.96% in the seat.

Assembly constituency no.24. Champhai South comprises of the following areas of Champhai district in the North region of Mizoram: Wd No 4 Kanan Veng, Wd No 5 Venglai, Wd No 6 New Champhai, Wd No 7 Bethel Veng, Wd No 8 electric Veng, Wd No 11 Tlangsam, Wd No 12 Ruantlang, Wd No 13 Zotlang, Wd No 14 Chhungte and Wd No 15 Vengthar in Champhai (Notified Town), Villages of mualkawi, melbuk (Khawnuam), Zokhawthar, Tuipui, Kelkang and Dilkawn in Khawzawl R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 180 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Champhai South is: 23°24'20.9"N 93°20'00.6"E.

A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Mizoram share borders with Champhai South constituency, which are: Champhai North, Tuichang, East Tuipui. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with Myanmar.
