Alandur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Kancheepuram district in the North region of Tamil Nadu: Sriperumbudur Taluk (Part) - Ayyappanthangal, Thelliaragaram, Koluthuvancheri, Srinivasapuram, Kovur, Chinnapanicheri, Paraniputhur, Periyapanicheri, Moulivakkam, Madanandapuram, Mugalivakkam, Kolapakkam, Gerugambakkam, Thandalam, Tharapakkam and Irandankattalai villages. Manapakkam (CT). Tambaram Taluk (Part) Cowl Bazaar village. Nandambakkam (TP), St.Thomas Mount-cum-Pallavaram (CB), Alandur (M) and Moovarasampettai (CT).

This constituency covers an approximate area of 62 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Alandur is: 13°00'15.5"N 80°09'41.4"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 60.82%, while it was 61.75% in 2016, and 70.07% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, T M Anbarasan of DMK won in this constituency beating B Valarmathi of AIADMK by a margin of 40571 votes which was 17.2% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Anbarasan, T.M. of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Ramachandran, S. of AIADMK by a margin of 19169 votes which was 8.83% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, S. Ramachandran of DMDK won this seat defeating Dr. K.Ghayathri Devi of INC by a margin of 5754 votes which was 3.42% of the total votes polled for the seat.
