Alangulam Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Tirunelveli district in the South region of Tamil Nadu: Alangulam Taluk Ambasamudram Taluk (Part) Kadayam perumpathu, Keelakadayam, Vadakku Ariyanayagipuram, Pappakudi, Kasidharmam, Idaikkal, Therkumadathur, Ayan Pottalpudur I, Therku Kadayam, Ravanasamudram, Govindapperi, Ayan Dharmapuramadam, Sivasailam, Virasamudram, Pappankulam, Sengulam, Rengasamudram, Pananjadi, Pallakkal, Adaichani, Kila Ambur and Mela Ambur villages. Alwarkurichi (TP) and Mukkudal (TP).

This constituency covers an approximate area of 580 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Alangulam is: 8°49'44.0"N 77°27'27.7"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 77.4%, while it was 79.11% in 2016, and 81.04% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Paul Manoj Pandian of AIADMK won in this constituency beating Dr Poongothai Aladi Aruna of DMK by a margin of 3539 votes which was 1.75% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Dr. Poongothai Aladi Aruna of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Hepzi Karthikeyan of AIADMK by a margin of 4754 votes which was 2.46% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, P. G. Rajendran of AIADMK won this seat defeating Dr.Poongothai Aladi Aruna of DMK by a margin of 299 votes which was 0.18% of the total votes polled for the seat.
