Ambattur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Thiruvallur district in the North region of Tamil Nadu: Ambattur Taluk (Part) Ambattur (M) (Part) Ambattur (M) - Ward No. 1 to 34 and 37 to 51.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 36 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Ambattur is: 13°06'35.6"N 80°10'12.7"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 62.01%, while it was 63.93% in 2016, and 70.59% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Joseph Samuel of DMK won in this constituency beating V Alexander of AIADMK by a margin of 42146 votes which was 17.71% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Alexander V of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating Aassan Maulaana of INC by a margin of 17498 votes which was 7.62% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Vedhachalam. S of AIADMK won this seat defeating Ranaganathan. B of DMK by a margin of 22717 votes which was 12.19% of the total votes polled for the seat.
