Madurai West Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Madurai district in the South region of Tamil Nadu: Madurai North Taluk (Part) Koilpappakudi village. Paravai (TP) and Vilangudi (TP). Madurai South Taluk (Part) Kodimangalam, Melamathur, Keelamathur, Kilamathikattinan, Thuvariman, Achampattu, Erkudi, Sambakudi and Pudukulam villages. Madurai (M Corp.) Ward No. 60 to 72.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 63 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Madurai West is: 9°56'40.6"N 78°03'28.1"E.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Raju K of AIADMK won in this constituency beating Chinnammal C of DMK by a margin of 9121 votes which was 4.56% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Raju K of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating Thalapathi G of DMK by a margin of 16398 votes which was 8.9% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Raju K of AIADMK won this seat defeating Thalapathi G of DMK by a margin of 38761 votes which was 24.39% of the total votes polled for the seat.
