This constituency covers an approximate area of 429 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Thiruvarur is: 10°44'28.3"N 79°35'07.4"E.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Kalaivanan Poondi K of DMK won in this constituency beating Pannerselvam A N R of AIADMK by a margin of 51174 votes which was 24.77% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Karunanidhi .M of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Pannerselvam .R of AIADMK by a margin of 68366 votes which was 34.74% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Karunanidhi. M of DMK won this seat defeating Rajendran. M of AIADMK by a margin of 50249 votes which was 29.02% of the total votes polled for the seat.
