This constituency covers an approximate area of 57 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Tiruppur (South) is: 11°06'19.8"N 77°20'49.9"E.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Selvaraj K of DMK won in this constituency beating Gunasekaran S of AIADMK by a margin of 4709 votes which was 2.72% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Gunasekaran S of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating Selvaraj K of DMK by a margin of 15933 votes which was 9.71% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Thangavel.K of CPIM won this seat defeating Senthilkumar K of INC by a margin of 38303 votes which was 31.3% of the total votes polled for the seat.
