Velachery Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Chennai district in the North region of Tamil Nadu: Chennai (M Corp.) (Part) Chennai (M Corp.) Ward No. 151 to 155.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 19 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Velachery is: 12°59'25.1"N 80°14'41.6"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 56.18%, while it was 58.36% in 2016, and 67.07% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Jmh Aassan Maulaana of INC won in this constituency beating M K Ashok of AIADMK by a margin of 4352 votes which was 2.49% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Vagai Chanderasekar of DMK was the winner in this seat beating C Munusamy of AIADMK by a margin of 8872 votes which was 5.05% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Ashok M.K. of AIADMK won this seat defeating Jayaraman M of PMK by a margin of 31720 votes which was 20.82% of the total votes polled for the seat.
