This constituency covers an approximate area of 63 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Jagatdal is: 22°50'59.6"N 88°25'47.6"E.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Somenath Shyam Ichini of TMC won in this constituency beating Arindam Bhattacharya of BJP by a margin of 18364 votes which was 10.28% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Parash Dutta of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Haripada Biswas of AIFB by a margin of 27045 votes which was 16.35% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Parash Dutta of TMC won this seat defeating Haripada Biswas of AIFB by a margin of 36032 votes which was 24.53% of the total votes polled for the seat.
