Sonamukhi Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Bankura district in the South West Bengal region of West Bengal: 1. CDB Sonamukhi, 2. Sonamukhi(M) and 3. Belut Rasulpur, Beersingha, Hamirpur, Narayanpur and Patrasayar GPs of CDB Patrasayer

This constituency covers an approximate area of 518 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sonamukhi is: 23°18'31.3"N 87°26'10.3"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 88.49%, while it was 89.05% in 2016, and 91.53% in 2011.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Dibakar Gharami of BJP won in this constituency beating Dr Shyamal Santra of TMC by a margin of 10888 votes which was 5.29% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Ajit Ray of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating Dipali Saha of TMC by a margin of 8719 votes which was 4.66% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Dipali Saha of TMC won this seat defeating Chongre Manoranjan of CPIM by a margin of 7289 votes which was 4.42% of the total votes polled for the seat.
