Jugsalai comprises of the following areas of East Singhbhum district in the South Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Jugsalai police station (excluding Bagbera Town and Gram Panchayats Karandih-Purihasa, Hargarghutu, Bagbera and village (1167) Kitadih); Golmuri and Paramda police stations in Dhalbhum sub-division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 758.52 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 22°51'45.4"N 86°19'42.6"E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Jugsalai constituency, which are: Ichagarh, Jamshedpur West, Jamshedpur East, Potka, Ghatsila. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia district of West Bengal.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Mangal Kalindi of JMM won in this constituency beating Muchiram Bauri of BJP by a margin of 21,934 votes which was 10.14% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Ram Chandra Sahis of AJSU was the winner in this seat beating Mangal Kalindi of JMM by a margin of 25,045 votes which was 12.26% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Ram Chandra Sahis of AJSU won this seat defeating Rakhi Roy of BJP by a margin of 3,482 votes which was 2.33% of the total votes polled for the seat.
