Alappuzha Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Alappuzha district in the Travancore region of Kerala: Alappuzha Municipality and Wards no. 1-19 & 45-50 and Aryad, Mannanchery and Mararikkulam South Panchayats in Ambalappuzha Taluk and Mararikkulam North Panchayat in Cherthala Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 115 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Alappuzha is: 9°32'21.8"N 76°20'43.8"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 76.32%, while it was 80.72% in 2016, and 81.2% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, P P Chitharanjan of CPIM won in this constituency beating Dr K S Manoj of INC by a margin of 11644 votes which was 7.4% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Dr.T.M.Thomas Isaac of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating Adv.Laly Vincent of INC by a margin of 31032 votes which was 19.87% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Dr.T.M.Thomas Isaac of CPIM won this seat defeating Adv.P.J.Mathew of INC by a margin of 16342 votes which was 11.57% of the total votes polled for the seat.
