This constituency covers an approximate area of 662 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Chalakkudy is: 10°20'11.8"N 76°35'32.6"E.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Saneeshkumar Joseph of INC won in this constituency beating Dennies K Antony of KCM by a margin of 1057 votes which was 0.74% of the total votes cast. In 2016, B. D. Devassy of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating T. U. Radhakrishnan of INC by a margin of 26648 votes which was 17.72% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Devassy.B.D. of CPIM won this seat defeating Benny.K.T. of INC by a margin of 2549 votes which was 1.93% of the total votes polled for the seat.
