Kazhakkoottam Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Thiruvananthapuram district in the Travancore region of Kerala: Kazhakoottam and Sreekaryam Panchayats and Wards No. 1 to 12, 14, 76, 79 & 81 of Tvpm (M. Corporation) in Thiruvananthapuram Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 89 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kazhakkoottam is: 8°32'42.7"N 76°54'15.1"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 69.61%, while it was 73.7% in 2016, and 67.11% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Kadakampally Surendran of CPIM won in this constituency beating Sobha Surendran of BJP by a margin of 23497 votes which was 17.07% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Kadakampally Surendran of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating V.Muraleedharan of BJP by a margin of 7347 votes which was 5.48% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Adv. M. A. Vaheed of INC won this seat defeating C Ajayakumar of CPIM by a margin of 2196 votes which was 2.01% of the total votes polled for the seat.
