Thalassery Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Kannur district in the Malabar region of Kerala: Thalassery Municipality and Chockli, Eranholi, Kadirur, New– Mahe and Panniyannur Panchayats in Thalassery Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 73 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Thalassery is: 11°44'49.6"N 75°31'29.3"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 73.94%, while it was 79.45% in 2016, and 78.68% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Adv A N Shamseer of CPIM won in this constituency beating M P Aravindakshan of INC by a margin of 36801 votes which was 28.16% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Adv. A N Shamseer of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating A P Abdullakutty of INC by a margin of 34117 votes which was 25.72% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan of CPIM won this seat defeating Rijil Makkutty of INC by a margin of 26509 votes which was 22.51% of the total votes polled for the seat.
