In 2013, Sukhendra Singh (Banna) of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Laxman Tiwari of BJP by a margin of 10,766 votes which was 9.14% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 33.02% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Laxman Tiwari of BJSH won this seat beating Akhand Pratap Singh of BJP by a margin of 4,879 votes which was 5.43% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 26.89% in the seat.

Mauganj comprises of the following areas of Rewa district in the Vindhya Pradesh region of Madhya Pradesh: Hanumana Tehsil, 66 Barhata, 67 Baharadabar, 68 Bhathi Sengar, 69 Ghurehata, 70 Ganj, 71 Dubgawan and 72 Mudariya Patwari Circles of Mauganj RI Circle of Mauganj Tehsil and Mauganj (NPT) NPT.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1,026 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Mauganj is: 24°41'47.0"N 82°02'21.8"E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Madhya Pradesh share borders with Mauganj constituency, which are: Teonthar, Deotalab, Churhat, Sihawal, Chitrangi. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Mirzapur and Prayagraj districts of Uttar Pradesh.
