In the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Dr Ashok Marskole of INC won in this seat defeating Rampyare Kulaste of BJP by a margin of 28,315 which was 14.92% of the total votes cast for the seat. INC had a vote share of 47.94% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, Rampyare Kulaste of BJP emerged victorious in this seat beating Patiram Pandro of INC by a margin of 10,910 votes which was 6.44% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 38.88% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Rampyare Kulaste of BJP won this seat beating Patiram Pandro of INC by a margin of 3,649 votes which was 2.61% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 32.87% in the seat.

Niwas comprises of the following areas of Mandla district in the Mahakoshal region of Madhya Pradesh: Niwas Tehsil, Mohgaon RI Circle of Mandla Tehsil, 22 Gwari, 23 Bakori, 24 Sagar, 25 Phoolsagar, 26 Semarkhapa, 36 Tikariya, 37 Bakchheradona, 38 Kindri, 39 Pondi Mal, 40 Patpar Singarpur and 41 Linga Mal Patwari Circles of Mandla 'B' RI Circle of Mandla Tehsil.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 2,640 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Niwas is: 22°53'25.8"N 80°20'49.2"E.
