In 2013, Shankarlal Tiwari of BJP emerged victorious in this seat beating Rajaram Tripathi of INC by a margin of 15,332 votes which was 11.35% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 41.59% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Shankar Lal Tiwari of BJP won this seat beating Sayeed Ahmad of INC by a margin of 10,800 votes which was 10.74% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 38.45% in the seat.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 213 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Satna is: 24°35'04.2"N 80°52'31.8"E.
