In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly elections, H Biakzaua of MNF won in this seat defeating H Zothangliana of INC by a margin of 944 which was 5.28% of the total votes cast for the seat. MNF had a vote share of 48.4% in 2018 in this seat.

In 2013, H Zothangliana of INC emerged victorious in this seat beating Vanupa Zathang of MNF by a margin of 273 votes which was 1.62% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 48.65% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, H Zothangliana of INC won this seat beating H Rammawi of MNF by a margin of 911 votes which was 6% of the total votes polled in the constituency. MNF had a vote share of 41.44% in the seat.

Lawngtlai East comprises of the following areas of Lawngtlai district in the South region of Mizoram: Villages Vartekkai, Vartek, lungtian, Cheural, Rawlbuk, Fungkah, lungpher, Siachangkawn, Bualpui NG 'W', Bualpui NG 'e', lungzarhtum, Vawmbuk, Archhuang, Thaltlang, Tialdawngi lung, Sentetfiang, Sangau 'W', Sangau 'e' and Pangkhua in Sangau R D Block; and lawngtlai Council Veng, lawngtlai Vengpui (l I), lawngtlai Bazar Veng (l II), Salem (l III) and Chanmari (l IV) in lawngtlai R D Block.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 634 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Lawngtlai East is: 22°40'36.1"N 92°58'38.3"E.
