This constituency covers an approximate area of 30 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Embalam is: 11°49'35.0"N 79°44'45.6"E.

In the 2021 Puducherry Assembly elections, U Lakshmikandhan of AINRC won in this constituency beating M Candassamy of INC by a margin of 2240 votes which was 7.34% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Candassamy, M. of INC was the winner in this seat beating Lakshmikandhan, U. of AINRC by a margin of 11200 votes which was 39.07% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, P. Rajavelu of AINRC won this seat defeating M. Candassamy of INC by a margin of 1468 votes which was 5.9% of the total votes polled for the seat.
