In 2013, Vasundhra Raje of BJP emerged victorious in this seat beating Meenakshi Chandrawat of INC by a margin of 60,896 votes which was 33.62% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 63.14% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Vasundhara Raje of BJP won this seat beating Mohan Lal of INC by a margin of 32,581 votes which was 22.6% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 56.59% in the seat.

Jhalrapatan comprises of the following areas of Jhalawar district in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan: Tehsil Pirawa, Tehsil Jhalrapatan (Partly) – (I) IlRC Jhalrapatan including Municipal Board Jhalrapatan (II) IlRC Samrai (III) IlRC Jhalawar (Partly) (i) Municipal Board Jhalawar (ii) PC Durgpura (iii) PC Gindor (iv) PC Kalmandi Kalan (v) PC Khanpuriya (vi) PC Salotiya.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1,478 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Jhalrapatan is: 24°21'14.4"N 76°04'17.4"E.

A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Rajasthan share borders with Jhalrapatan constituency, which are: Dag, Ramganj Mandi, Khanpur. This constituency shares an inter-state/international border with Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
