In 2013, Sukharam of BJP emerged victorious in this seat beating Laxman Ram of INC by a margin of 35,549 votes which was 24.12% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 52.97% in the seat.

In the 2008 elections, Sukharam of BJP won this seat beating Pancharam Indawar of INC by a margin of 24,040 votes which was 21.52% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 52.35% in the seat.

Merta comprises of the following areas of Nagaur district in the West region of Rajasthan: Tehsil merta (Partly) – (I) IlRC merta including Municipal Board merta City (II) IlRC Riyan Bari (III) IlRC Padukalan (IV) IlRC Gotan (V) IlRC Jasnagar (VI) IlRC Gagrana (VII) IlRC merta Road (Phalodi).

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1,781 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Merta is: 26°36'08.3"N 74°00'58.7"E.
