In the 2008 elections, Rao Rajendra Singh of BJP won this seat beating Alok of INC by a margin of 7,215 votes which was 6.48% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 40% in the seat.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 510 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Shahpura is: 27°18'48.6"N 75°46'39.0"E.
