In the 2008 elections, Sharwan Kumar of INC won this seat beating Santosh Ahlawat of BJP by a margin of 7,214 votes which was 5.27% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 32.84% in the seat.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 940 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Surajgarh is: 28°14'18.6"N 75°51'54.0"E.
