Madurai North Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Madurai district in the South region of Tamil Nadu: Madurai South Taluk (Part) Madurai (M Corp.) Ward No.2 to 8, 11 to 15 and 17 to 20. Madurai North Taluk (Part) Melamadai (CT).

This constituency covers an approximate area of 18 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Madurai North is: 9°56'20.4"N 78°08'01.3"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 63.6%, while it was 66.34% in 2016, and 73.19% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Thalapathi G of DMK won in this constituency beating Saravanan P of BJP by a margin of 22916 votes which was 14.79% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Rajan Chellappa, V.V. of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating Karthikeyan, V. of INC by a margin of 18839 votes which was 12.2% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Bose.A.K of AIADMK won this seat defeating Rajendran.K.S.K of INC by a margin of 46400 votes which was 32.55% of the total votes polled for the seat.
