Perambur Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Chennai district in the North region of Tamil Nadu: Chennai (M Corp.) (Part) Chennai (M Corp.) Ward No.1, 2 and 32 to 36.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 12 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Perambur is: 13°07'44.4"N 80°15'24.5"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 63%, while it was 65.01% in 2016, and 69.8% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Shekar R D of DMK won in this constituency beating Dhanapalan N R of AIADMK by a margin of 54976 votes which was 27.64% of the total votes cast. In 2016, P Vetrivel of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating N R Dhanapalan of DMK by a margin of 519 votes which was 0.28% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Soundararajan A of CPIM won this seat defeating N.R.Dhanapalan of DMK by a margin of 17423 votes which was 10.75% of the total votes polled for the seat.
