Saidapet Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Chennai district in the North region of Tamil Nadu: Chennai (M Corp.) (Part) Chennai (M Corp.) Ward No.132 to 136 and 138 to 141.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 20 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Saidapet is: 13°00'41.0"N 80°13'36.5"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 57.36%, while it was 59.64% in 2016, and 70.49% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Subramanian Ma of DMK won in this constituency beating Saidai Duraisamy of AIADMK by a margin of 29408 votes which was 18.48% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Subramanian.Ma of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Ponnayan.C of AIADMK by a margin of 16255 votes which was 9.67% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Senthamizhan.G of AIADMK won this seat defeating Magesh Kumaar.M of DMK by a margin of 12071 votes which was 7.83% of the total votes polled for the seat.
