Salem (North) Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Salem district in the North region of Tamil Nadu: Salem Taluk (Part) Salem (M Corp.) Ward No.6 to 16 and 26 to 36. Kannankurichi (TP).

This constituency covers an approximate area of 59 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Salem (North) is: 11°40'49.1"N 78°08'58.6"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 72.14%, while it was 72.12% in 2016, and 74.53% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, R Rajendran of DMK won in this constituency beating G Venkatachalam of AIADMK by a margin of 7588 votes which was 3.78% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Rajendran.R of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Saravanan.K.R.S of AIADMK by a margin of 9873 votes which was 5.15% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Alagapuram R Mohanraj of DMDK won this seat defeating Jayaprakash G of INC by a margin of 29365 votes which was 17.98% of the total votes polled for the seat.
