This constituency covers an approximate area of 1011 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sankarapuram is: 11°50'04.2"N 78°48'41.4"E.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Udhayasuriyan T of DMK won in this constituency beating Dr Raja G of PMK by a margin of 45963 votes which was 21.39% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Udhayasuriyan.T of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Mohan P of AIADMK by a margin of 14528 votes which was 7.15% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Mohan.P of AIADMK won this seat defeating Udhayasuriyan.T of DMK by a margin of 12198 votes which was 7.14% of the total votes polled for the seat.
