This constituency covers an approximate area of 671 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Thiruporur is: 12°41'07.1"N 80°07'21.7"E.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, S S Balaji of VCK won in this constituency beating Arumugam K of PMK by a margin of 1947 votes which was 0.87% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Kothandapani. M of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating Viswanathan. V of DMK by a margin of 950 votes which was 0.47% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, K. Manoharan of AIADMK won this seat defeating K. Arumugam of PMK by a margin of 18288 votes which was 11.53% of the total votes polled for the seat.
