This constituency covers an approximate area of 13 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Virugampakkam is: 13°03'15.5"N 80°11'44.9"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 57.59%, while it was 58.63% in 2016, and 67.1% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Amv Prabhakara Raja of DMK won in this constituency beating Virugai V N Ravi of AIADMK by a margin of 18367 votes which was 10.96% of the total votes cast. In 2016, V.N.Virugai Ravi of AIADMK was the winner in this seat beating K Thanasekaran of DMK by a margin of 2333 votes which was 1.36% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Partha Sarathy B of DMDK won this seat defeating Thanasekaran K of DMK by a margin of 14094 votes which was 9.78% of the total votes polled for the seat.
