This constituency covers an approximate area of 210 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Khanakul is: 22°41'11.0"N 87°49'53.4"E.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Susanta Ghosh of BJP won in this constituency beating Munsi Nazbul Karim of TMC by a margin of 12884 votes which was 6% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Iqbal Ahmed of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Islam Ali Khan of CPIM by a margin of 43487 votes which was 21.99% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Iqbal Ahmed of TMC won this seat defeating Subhra Parui of CPIM by a margin of 27879 votes which was 15.12% of the total votes polled for the seat.
