This constituency covers an approximate area of 14 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kolkata Port is: 22°32'00.2"N 88°17'52.4"E.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Firhad Hakim of TMC won in this constituency beating Awadh Kishore Gupta of BJP by a margin of 68554 votes which was 45.38% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Firhad Hakim of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Rakesh Singh of INC by a margin of 26548 votes which was 19.23% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Firhad Hakim of TMC won this seat defeating Moinuddin Shams of AIFB by a margin of 25033 votes which was 19.06% of the total votes polled for the seat.
