This constituency covers an approximate area of 298 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Matigara-Naxalbari is: 26°43'46.2"N 88°18'25.9"E.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Anandamay Barman of BJP won in this constituency beating Rajen Sundas of TMC by a margin of 70848 votes which was 29.93% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Sankar Malakar of INC was the winner in this seat beating Amar Sinha of TMC by a margin of 18627 votes which was 8.9% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Sankar Malakar of INC won this seat defeating Jharen Roy of CPIM by a margin of 6833 votes which was 4.15% of the total votes polled for the seat.
