This constituency covers an approximate area of 79 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sonarpur Dakshin is: 22°25'46.9"N 88°27'07.2"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 80.21%, while it was 82.56% in 2016, and 83.82% in 2011.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Arundhuti Maitra (Lovely) of TMC won in this constituency beating Anjana Basu of BJP by a margin of 26181 votes which was 11.37% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Jiban Mukhopadhyay of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Tarit Chakraborty of CPI by a margin of 15029 votes which was 7.37% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Jiban Mukhopadhyay of TMC won this seat defeating Tarit Chakraborty(Saheb) of CPI by a margin of 37774 votes which was 22.24% of the total votes polled for the seat.
