Sonarpur Uttar Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of South 24 Parganas district in the Greater Kolkata region of West Bengal: 1. Ward Nos. 1 to 7 and 25 to 33 of Rajpur Sonarpur (M) and 2. Banhooghly-I, Banhooghly-II, Kamrabad, Kheyadaha-I and Kheyadaha-II GPs of CDB Sonarpur

This constituency covers an approximate area of 81 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sonarpur Uttar is: 22°26'48.5"N 88°24'38.9"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 79.88%, while it was 82.08% in 2016, and 82.38% in 2011.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Firdousi Begum of TMC won in this constituency beating Ranjan Baidya of BJP by a margin of 36090 votes which was 15.14% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Firdousi Begum of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Jyotirmoyee Sikdar of CPIM by a margin of 24880 votes which was 12.28% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Firdousi Begum of TMC won this seat defeating Shyamal Naskar of CPIM by a margin of 26024 votes which was 16.05% of the total votes polled for the seat.
