This constituency covers an approximate area of 22 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Uttarpara is: 22°41'15.0"N 88°20'29.0"E.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Kanchan Mullick of TMC won in this constituency beating Prabir Kumar Ghosal of BJP by a margin of 35989 votes which was 18.31% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Prabir Kumar Ghosal of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Prof. Dr.Srutinath Praharaj of CPIM by a margin of 12000 votes which was 6.34% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Anup Ghosal of TMC won this seat defeating Prof. Dr. Srutinath Praharaj of CPIM by a margin of 43193 votes which was 24.64% of the total votes polled for the seat.
