Atul Bora
AGP | Bokakhat | AssamAwaited
Senior Assam minister and president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Atul Bora is set to contest from Bokakhat in the 2026 Assembly elections, representing a key ally of the BJP-led NDA in the state.
A prominent regional leader, Bora currently holds multiple portfolios in the Himanta Biswa Sarma government, including agriculture, horticulture and food processing, and animal husbandry and veterinary. His role underscores the AGP’s continued relevance within the ruling coalition.
Bora’s political roots lie in the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), where he was actively involved during the anti-foreigners’ agitation. He first entered the Assembly in 1985, when the AGP formed its maiden government, and went on to serve as a minister during the party’s second term in power from 1996 to 2001 under Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
He represented the Golaghat constituency between 1996 and 2001 before shifting to Bokakhat in 2016. Since then, Bora has won the seat twice, establishing a steady electoral base in the constituency.
As he seeks re-election from Bokakhat in 2026, Bora remains one of the most prominent faces of the AGP, balancing regional political identity with his role in the broader NDA framework in Assam.
